Nice Matter started with a simple idea: everyday moments at home deserve to feel a little special.

For me, that feeling has always come from the table.

My mum has always loved hosting. She has an incredible eye for design and aesthetics — the table always looked beautiful when people came over. It was part of how she welcomed people into her home: thoughtful, stylish, and always considered.

My mother-in-law in Peru has a different but equally special tradition. In her home, the table is always set. Every meal - even everyday ones - is treated as a moment to sit down together, talk, and enjoy the experience of eating. It’s cultural, intentional, and centred around connection.

Both of these influences shaped how I think about the table today.

But as life got busier - and with two kids at home - I realised something surprising: the beautiful placemats I had bought over 2 years ago were still sitting in my drawer. Linen ones that required washing and ironing looked lovely, but they simply didn’t work for real life.

I wanted something different.

Something design-led and beautiful, but also practical enough for everyday use.
Something you could use when hosting friends, but also when serving Tuesday night pasta with the kids.
Something that felt elevated - but effortless.

After searching everywhere and not finding what I had in mind, I decided to create it myself.

In 2025 I began designing and sampling, developing a placemat that combined considered design, quality materials, and everyday practicality. The result is a collection of wipe-clean placemats designed to look beautiful on the table and last for years.

Nice Matter pieces are designed to bring a little intention to everyday living - the kind that turns ordinary meals into moments worth lingering over.

Because sometimes, the little things around the table really do matter.
